Strengthening Transatlantic Ties in New York City
Ireland For Law leads another successful Business Mission to New York City
The September 2026 Ireland for Law Business Mission to New York City successfully delivered a high-impact, multi-event programme across Manhattan, reinforcing Ireland’s standing as the premier English-speaking, common-law jurisdiction within the European Union.
Led by a senior delegation including Ireland for Law Chair and former Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Attorney General Rossa Fanning SC, Minister of State Catherine Ardagh TD, High Court President David Barniville, leading law firm partners, and members of the Bar of Ireland, the mission demonstrated the depth and expertise of the Irish legal community.
In an evolving global trade and regulatory environment, international businesses and US multinationals face critical choices regarding jurisdiction and contract governance. Following the UK's departure from the EU, Ireland occupies a distinct strategic position, offering automatic recognition and enforcement of judgements across member states, a pro-business regulatory environment, and world-class judicial infrastructure.
The 2026 mission comprised seven core events at prestigious Manhattan venues, alongside an eighth event organised by Arbitration Ireland at the American Arbitration Association. Across the programme, the mission recorded 771 event attendances from 380 attendees. Crucially, US attendees accounted for approximately 48% of total attendances, meeting a key objective to build significant buy-in across the US legal, corporate, and financial communities. Irish delegates represented 44%, with international participants making up the remaining 8%.
Panels addressed key commercial sectors, from asset management, highlighting Ireland’s €5.6 trillion in funds assets, to cross-border disputes, constitutional design, and aviation leasing, where an Irish-leased aircraft takes off every two seconds globally.
The mission concluded at the American Irish Historical Society with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Bar of Ireland and the New York State Bar Association.
Participant feedback reflected strong momentum: 85% of respondents noted the mission exceeded expectations, while 100% confirmed they would attend again or recommend it to peers. Media coverage spanned five legal and business publications alongside widespread engagement on LinkedIn.
Looking ahead, planning for 2027 is already underway. To optimize court schedules and practitioner availability, the annual New York mission will move to the spring, taking place from 18th–20th May 2027.
