Mark Garrett

Director General, Law Society of Ireland

Mark has been the Director General of the Law Society of Ireland since January 2022.  In this role, he leads the executive team of the Law Society, which has educational, regulatory and representative functions in respect of the solicitors’ profession.

 

The Law Society delivers post-graduate legal education and professional training, encourages and supports the highest professional standards through regulation and guidance, as well as placing significant emphasis on civic engagement and the public interest through a range of justice and law reform initiatives. Mark has extensive experience in leadership and management, both in the public and private sectors.

 

Between 2008 and 2014, he worked as Chief of Staff to An Tánaiste (Irish Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Eamon Gilmore and previously for the Irish Competition Authority.  In the private sector he has worked in senior roles with Irish and multinational organisations McKinsey & Company, Glanbia plc and Teneo.
