Enda Kenny

Enda Kenny is a former Irish politician who served as Taoiseach of Ireland from 2011 to 2017 and led Fine Gael for 15 years, the longest tenure of any party leader. Elected to Dáil Éireann at the age of 24 in 1975, he was re-elected in 12 subsequent general elections before retiring from politics in 2020.

During his career, he held ministerial roles in Education and Labour, and Tourism and Trade, and also served as Vice President of the European People’s Party. As Taoiseach, he oversaw Ireland’s recovery from the Troika bailout, the restoration of economic sovereignty, and a period of sustained economic growth marked by falling unemployment, restored credit ratings, and renewed market confidence. He also played a significant role in European affairs, including co-chairing European Council meetings during Ireland’s 2013 EU Presidency and securing EU recognition of Northern Ireland’s potential automatic re-entry to the EU under the Good Friday Agreement framework.

He has since held a range of international business and advisory roles, including positions with Venturewave Capital, Envetec, SUAS Aerospace, and the International Commission Against the Death Penalty, and has received honorary degrees and international awards in recognition of his public service.
